The Campus Director will be based out of P.S. 343 located in Sunnyside, Queens. The person in this role is responsible for creating dynamic after-school, evening, and weekend programs that utilize youth development best practices and principles. Activities would include academic enrichment, project-based learning, leadership growth, arts and physical education activities for youth in kindergarten through high school, adults, and the broader Sunnyside community.
This is a 12-month position contracted for a Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Beacon and 21st Century Community Learning Center elementary program. General hours of operation are 2 – 9:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and Saturdays, 9 am – 4 pm. The Campus Director is expected to work some evenings and Saturdays, as needed. Both contracts require 15 holiday camps; in addition, DYCD Beacon requires a full 7-week summer program.
This position will be a part of the Youth and Family Services department, at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, after-school programs for elementary and middle school students, career/college readiness for high school students, and high school enrichment programming.
Sunnyside Community Services (SCS) is a multi-service, community-based organization providing a broad range of services to approximately 16,000 people each year. Our services include pre-kindergarten and after school programs, college preparatory and career programs for teens and young adults, supports for immigrants, a vibrant senior center, dedicated home care services, support and assistance for family caregivers, and social adult day program for people with cognitive and physical impairments.
Responsibilities
- Oversee assigned contracts and ensure outcomes and expectations are met, including the enrollment of 1,300 participants across grade bands and ages, per contract year of varying dosages.
- Design, develop, and support after-school, evening, and weekend programing.
- Supervise a team consisting of an Assistant Director/Education Specialist, Program Coordinator, Instructors, and Group Leaders.
- Organize program logistics, such as schedules, space reservations, resources, etc.
- Build and maintain relationships with program stakeholders, including school administrative staff, parents, co-locators, and funders.
- Collect and enter data into DYCD Connect, Salesforce, and other funder- or agency-related databases in a timely manner.
- Ensure adherence to Department of Health and Office of Children and Family regulations and prepare for program audits by funders and other evaluators.
- Ensure all contract budgets are tracked and maintained; partake in monthly fiscal meetings.
- Create a strong sense of community that values respect, acceptance, and high expectations.
- Other job-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an associate’s degree with at least 18 approved coursework credits in child development, education, or related fields.
- Three or more years of experience working with youth in an after-school environment with at least two years of experience in a supervisory role. Experience supervising K–12 programming desired.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish speaking) a plus.
Reports to: Senior Director of Beacon and SONYC programs
Program Operation Hours: Monday – Friday, 2 – 9:30 pm; Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm
Schedule: 35 hours/week; Saturdays and some evenings required; 12-month role. Work schedules may vary.
Compensation: $62,000 – 65,000 (Exempt)
