Volunteer

We rely on the support of our volunteers to serve thousands of people each year.

Sunnyside Community Services is dedicated to offering a variety of opportunities for you to use your time and talents to give back to the community. As of 2020, Sunnyside Community Services was recognized as a Service Enteprise by Points of Light---the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.

Note: SCS engages volunteers age 15 and up. All volunteers of SCS programs must be vaccinated against COVID-19, effective September 13, 2021.

Volunteer opportunities include: 

Youth Services

Provide tutoring and assistance with homework or educational enrichment activities. SCS youth programs serve young people in pre-school through college.  

Older Adult Services

Assist in preparing or serving meals in the Center for Active Older Adults, or teach a class on a topic that interests you. Help screen our members for benefits and entitlement programs, or provide assistance in our adult day services program for cognitively or physically impaired seniors. 

Friendly Visiting

Visit homebound older adults who are in need of companionship and a friendly face. We match volunteers based on geographic location and shared interest. During the visit, volunteers and seniors might play board or card games, discuss current events, make photo albums, or share memories. All of our Friendly Visiting volunteers must be willing to make a six-month commitment to the program. 

Pet Pals

Help homebound older adults and their caregivers to provide basic care for household pets and companionship for the family. Volunteers walk dogs, shop for pet supplies, take pets to the vet, and more. 

Administrative Support

Help all of SCS’ programs by providing assistance with essential administrative tasks such as filing and data entry.  

Corporate Engagement

We connect teams of corporate volunteers to fun and meaningful volunteer experiences.  We can work with you to find a volunteer opportunity that fits your team's interests, skills, and availability.
