Summer Rising Beacon Instructor – I.S. 5 (Seasonal)

Instructors will report directly to the Campus Director. Instructors will be in charge of a group of participants and will be responsible for the overall care and safety of the youth. Instructors are responsible for conducting aged appropriate activities alongside the group’s instructor.

This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services offered at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes, after-school programs for elementary and middle school youth, high school job readiness, career readiness, and enrichment programming and Adult and Immigrant Services.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of participants along with the group leader and provide for the safety and well-being of participants.
  • Tailor the curriculum for each level of instruction to match student needs.
  • Develop age-appropriate lesson plans to be submitted in a timely manner.
  • Prepare material and examples in advance for student understanding during activities.
  • Lead, plan, and prep special projects for community or program events in a timely manner.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
  • Maintain the sanitization of program space and ensure program supplies are well organized, cleaned, and in good condition.
  • Ensuring health and safety protocols/ policies are maintained.
  • Assist in the training and professional development of group leaders and youth workers.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Must be available Monday – Friday during summer program hours.
  • High school diploma required; some college or relevant degree preferred.
  • Experience working with youth and experience working in an after-school environment preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • This position begins after required DOE & DOH fingerprints, medical forms, letters of recommendation and online trainings are successfully completed/cleared as per SACC & SCS requirements.
  • Summer staff must be available for Summer Staff Orientation from June 24 – June 28, 2024.

Compensation: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
Schedule: July 1 – August 16; Monday – Thursday, 11 am – 4 pm, and Friday, 8 am – 6 pm.
Location: Sunnyside Campus at I.S. 5  in Elmhurst, NY 11373
