After-School Group Leader – P.S. 343 (Part-Time; Seasonal)

Reporting directly to the Campus Director and Assistant Director, the After-School Group Leader is primarily responsible for the supervision and safety of program participants for various levels of activities, including but not limited to physical enrichment, arts and crafts, and mealtimes. Group Leaders will also serve as liaisons for the program and participants to ensure adequate safety. Responsibilities also include ensuring that the program environment is safe, clean, and appropriate for program activities. It is ideal for Group Leaders to be proficient in a variety of areas such as literacy, STEAM, crafts, and leadership.

This position will be a part of our Youth and Immigrant Services division offered at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, multiple after-school programs for elementary and middle school youth, college and career readiness for high-school-aged youth, and Adult and Immigrant Services.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise groups of participants along with the additional Youth Workers and provide for the safety and well-being of participants.
  • Assist in the completion of participant assignments.
  • Develop age-appropriate recreational lesson plans to match participant need and be submitted promptly.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials and examples in advance for student understanding during activities.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of special events and projects.
  • Meet regularly with supervisors and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
  • Maintain the sanitization of the program space and ensure program supplies are well organized, cleaned, and in good condition.
  • Ensuring health and safety protocols and policies are maintained.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Must be available Monday – Friday during program hours through June 20, 2025. Accommodations for school schedules can be made at the discretion of the Campus Director.
  • High school diploma required; college credits or relevant degree preferred.
  • Organizational and communication skills are required, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Online and in-person training will be provided and is required.
  • This position begins after clearances are completed.

Reports to: Campus Director and Assistant Director

Hourly rate: $16.00 – $17.00

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 2 – 6 pm; opportunities for evenings and Saturdays; schedules may vary
