We are looking for a responsible, enthusiastic, and team-oriented Group Leader to work with students in grades K-8 to assist Instructors with homework help, recreational activities, lesson implementation, overall supervision and ensuring the wellbeing of participants and the program environment. We are looking for a team member who can support diverse and comprehensive activities that highlight life skills and soft skills for youth. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development and are dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where students can grow as confident and capable young leaders.
This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services offered at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, after-school programs for elementary and middle school students, high school job readiness, career readiness, and enrichment programming, as well as adult and immigrant services.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of all program participants with constant and consistent supervision of program participants.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to snack pick-up at offsite location, attendance taking, health checks and daily behavioral documentation, homework assistance, and program support during high-risk times like arrival, snack, and dismissal.
- Assist Instructors and subcontractors in the implementation of lessons and activities and assist with creating a brave and safe program environment.
- Maintain room and activity areas, keeping them cleaned and organized, in addition to the program space and use of program supplies through cleaning logs and sign in/out sheets.
- Motivate and maintain active involvement of all program participants.
- Attend required meetings and training courses.
- Meet regularly with supervisors and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
- Any additional tasks/duties as assigned by program supervisor.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start of the role.
- Experience working with children in a school, camp, or community setting.
- Ability to multitask and be present in a busy classroom environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Patience, adaptability, and a passion for working with youth.
- Be a dependable and contributing member of the after-school team.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check by The New York Public Schools (PETS).
- Ability to work in person Monday – Friday – remote options are not available.
Compensation: $17 – $18/hour
Operating Hours: Monday – Friday, 2 – 6 pm; work schedules may vary
Location: SONYC Blvd, Samaritan Village Family Residence
