Summer Instructor - Sunnyside Community Services

Summer Instructor – P.S. 343 (Seasonal) 

Reporting directly to the Campus Director and Assistant Director, Summer Instructors are primarily responsible for planning and instructing various levels of activities, including tailoring curriculum for specific classroom needs. Summer Instructors should be proficient in a variety of areas such as literacy, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), crafts, and leadership. 

This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services Division offered at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, multiple after-school programs for elementary and middle school youth, college and career readiness for high school-aged youth, and adult and immigrant services. 

Responsibilities 

  • Supervise a group of participants along with the additional Summer Instructors and provide for the safety and well-being of participants. 
  • Ensure the completion of participant assignments. 
  • Tailor curriculum for each level of instruction to match student needs. Develop age-appropriate lesson plans to be submitted promptly. 
  • Prepare materials and examples in advance for student understanding during activities. 
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of special events and projects. 
  • Meet regularly with supervisors and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges. 
  • Maintain the sanitization of program space and ensure program supplies are well organized, clean, and in good condition. 
  • Ensure health and safety protocols and policies are maintained. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Must be 18 years old or older. 
  • Must be available Monday – Friday during program hours through August 15. 
  • High school diploma; some college of relevant degree preferred. 
  • Instructional experience with a minimum of two years’ experience in an after-school and Summer Rising environment. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • This position begins in the last week of June after clearances are completed. Summer Instructors are expected to be committed to the position through August. 

Reports to: Campus Director and Assistant Director  

Compensation: $17 – $19/hour 

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 6 pm; schedules may vary
