Pedro Nieves, a member of our Center for Active Older Adults, was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame by Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris. The ceremony was held on June 14 at our building in Sunnyside, Queens.
Mr. Nieves served in the 65th Infantry Regiment, known as the “Borinqueneers,” a Puerto Rican regiment that fought in the Korean War and was later awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
The New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from New York who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.
