The piece focused on a recent report from the Center for an Urban Future that found that recreation receives only about 5% of the NYC Parks budget, resulting in “recreation deserts” where communities have few programs, aging facilities, and staffing shortages for recreational programs. As Kerly explains, programs like our older adult fitness classes can increase health and decrease isolation among participants.
