On Monday, June 8, students from PS150Q walked a mile to raise awareness and funds in support of Alzheimer’s Disease programs. After walking, students tied purple ribbons to the fence in front of the school, near a number of handwritten signs. Sixth grade students have been participating in service learning projects at Sunnyside Community Services’ Social Adult Day Program for individuals with Alzheimer’s. Elizabeth Gronke, interim director of the program, also informed the students about Alzheimer’s at a recent school assembly. According to Ms. Rosella Giorgi, teacher at PS 150 and organizer of the event, there was amazing support for this effort from the students, parents and the local community. More than $2,000 was raised for various Alzheimer’s-related efforts.
